Durham Cathedral MS B.4.24

Creation PlaceEngland, Christ Church Canterbury; England, Durham

Creator role:scribe Creator:Simeon of Durham, -approximately 1130 Creator notes:“Symeon wrote, rubricated and decorated. He made a number of additions to the manuscript over time” Gullick 1998, no. 5, about f.12v-45v
“Symeon wrote conventiones (fol. 5), obits in the margin of the Martyrology (fols. 18v, 20v, 21, 23v, 26v, 31v, 33v, 37, 38v, and perhaps elsewhere), a title in red to Benedict, Regula (fol. 74v), part of one and all of another letter of Anselm (fols; 95v-96), liturgical ordinances (fol. 124r-v), and miscellaneous notes and a conventio (fol. 127).” Gullick 1998, no. 42, about the rest of the book. He adds a footnote “Symeon probably also wrote conventiones on fol. 5v, lines 1-3.”

Creator role:scribe Creator:Eadmer, -1124? Creator notes:Scribe of Lanfranc's Consuetudines (f.47v-67v), identified in Webber 1995 and Gullick 1998a - see Lanfranc 2002 p.xliv “in the hand of Eadmer, and written at a stage in the development of his hand which fits the 1090s - but showing developments in his script not compatible with an earlier date. Since we may accept that the manuscript was among those given by Bishop William of Saint-Calais to the cathedral community, it must have been assembled before his death on 2 Jan. 1096”
