Underlying the Durham Priory Library Recreated is a digital repository that provides the framework for the permanent storage of the digital content created for the project and for displaying it to readers.

The digital repository in which the data is stored is Fedora 4 and the interface to it is provided by Hydra heads. Each head provides a particular function with regard to the data stored in Fedora:

• schmit – stores and publishes xml catalogues
• hilda – loads the data and adds descriptions to it
• trifle – adds IIIF metadata to ingested images
• oubliette – stores data and provides preservation procedures
