Thomas Swalwell, monk of Durham Priory between 1483 and 1539, Doctor of Theology, is the most prolific annotator of Durham manuscripts and so one of the main means of identifying their provenance. He organised the Priory archive, added lists of contents to books and added his working notes to many texts.

His hand can be found labelling documents in the archive, adding press marks to books, and supplying tables of contents
